I Promise To...

Blog about:
  • Our Christmas Activities
  • Our Christmas Morning
  • Christmas with Aaron's Family
  • Christmas with Meg's Family
  • Christmas Eve Party
  • My Christmas Sewing Projects
  • My first solo pie attempt
But right now I'm still in recovery mode. Porter came down with Croup suddenly on Christmas day and it's been rough. He's coming out of it and today it seems to have moved out of his chest and he's no longer struggling to breath. I know children with Down Syndrome are very susceptible to upper respitory illness because of their narrow airways, however, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to not panic when my baby can't breath. It terrifies me, glad we're almost done with this. Hope you've all had a very Merry Christmas!

Oh, I have one more promise! I promise to come and read your many blog posts from the last 7+ days and I'll leave you comments because I wont be able to not tell you how adorable you are, but for now my cyber break continues.

Why is it that everything happens on Christmas? Crazy! I'm glad he's feeling better. Croup is nasty!

Morgan still gets it a few times a year. It used to be 4-5 times a year. I got my pediatrician to prescribe Decadron pills that we keep at home. As soon as we hear the first sounds of stridor (the wheezing sound when she inhales with the chest sucking all of the way in) we crush up 3 pills in applesauce and give it to her and then take her outside. It takes about 20 minutes to start working but it opens her airway up to where we don't have to go to the ER every time anymore.

The first time she got it she was 3 months old and we called 911. They got here and started to call life flight because they were freaking out with how difficult it was for her to breathe as soon as they figured out it was croup they called off the life flight.

I would ask your pediatrican about the Decadron. I kindof had to beg but seriously the best stuff ever. ANd all of my kids have had problems with croup so it comes in handy with all of them.

Hope he is feeling better soon!
