beating the odds!

October is National Down Syndrome Awareness month and as I thought about that this morning I was overwhelmed with how grateful I am for the odds we overcame to have Porter join our family. For starters, we had a 1 in 2,200 chance of having a child with Down Syndrome. Having an extra chromosome is tricky business; if the chromosome is too large or too small or in the wrong place survival is impossible. The last stat that comes to mind and devastates me is 90% of woman who are given a Down Syndrome diagnosis choose to abort. Aaron and I often talk about how sad it would be if Porter had never been given a chance because he is so full of life, love, and possibilities!{Sad Porter}

On a happier note, I wanted to share something that I think is amazing, it makes me cry every time I visit! Don't worry it's a happy cry. Click HERE. These kids were born with special needs in countries where they are never given a chance. They've been rescued, given love and a new life.
