B-Day #28

I have the best wife in the world! She went out of her way this year to make sure I have a fun birthday, and it turned out to be a great weekend! The fun began on Thursday with a trip to Tocano's with the rest of the Gelter clan as well as my aunt Ann and uncle Randy who were visiting from New York. It was great to see them and have them finally meet Porter!

{Let the celebration begin!}

Friday morning we got up early and got to the zoo right when it opened. What a great time to go! It wasn't super hot yet, so the animals were all up and active. Usually when we go it's so hot outside that all of the animals are asleep in the shade somewhere. Porter loved it because he was able to see the moving animals. He loved talking to them and telling them about how much fun he was having!

{I had no idea there were so many animals here!}

{That monkey looks just like you, Dad!}

{I thought this was a cool picture of the tiger in the background and Porter staring him down in the reflection.}

{Those were some really big cats!}

{After about an hour and half, P decided he was done and was out in seconds.}

On the way home, Meg took me to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch! It was really tasty, especially the Dulce de Leche Caramel Cheesecake I had for dessert! As you can tell, Porter was also a fan. He reminded me of a little bird and yelled at me every time I fed myself instead of him.

{Please, Dad, oh please!}

{Let me savor it for a second.}

{Yep, that's good. More!}

{That's what I'm talking about!}

{Can I have this for lunch every day?}

Meg then took me to Lowe's to pick up another surprise - a porch swing! We've talked about buying one since we moved in but we've never gotten around to it. We're both way excited to sit out on our swing and relax in the evenings. That night the Gelter clan came over with dinner and ice cream and we all topped off the evening with some Monsters vs. Aliens.

On Saturday, I woke up at 4:15 am to start getting ready for the Deseret News 10k that started at 6:05. I walked into the bathroom to discover that Meg had left me another present! It made me so happy and I forgot that it was so early. What a great idea!

Next came the 10k (6.2 mile run). As part of our training for the 1/2 marathon in September, we decided it would be fun to do an official race and this one looked like fun. It went from research park up at the University of Utah and came down the hill and ended at Liberty Park. It was a ton of fun! The adrenaline kicked in and we all beat our goal paces by almost a full minute!

{After the race with Rachael, Karli, and Tyler}

{Apparently, watching us run wore Porter out as well!}

Saturday evening was spent back up in Kaysville for a combined birthday party for my brother Tim and me. We had lasagna and red velvet cake, which are our favorites! All I can say is I'm spoiled!

Meg and family, thanks for a great weekend! I don't need nearly that much celebrating for my birthday, but it sure was a lot of fun!
