A Small Change

Due to the increase of online bullying towards individuals with Down Syndrome, I will be making some changes to our blog. I will be disabling your ability to download pictures of Porter from our blog. I NEVER want to see P's photo being used by a hate group! Makes me teary just thinking about it. Aaron and I were on the verge of going private, even though we try to keep this a low profile blog, but it seemed like the best way to protect P. For now we're comfortable with this solution.

I know that several of you have enjoyed being able to download photos of Porter for scrapbooks and such. If in the future there is a photo you'd like please just let me know in the comments and I'll get it to you. This post is my first attempt. I'll be going back over the last 9 months to disable right and left clicking, ugh, sounds fun right? But really it's a small thing and will help us feel safer online.

thats so wrong that you even have to worry about that kind of thing. there are some disturbed people out there. its disgusting. P is such a blessing. he touches everyones hearts just by his smile. i dont know how anyone could hate such a sweet spirit, especially without even knowing them as an individual.
*uhg.. thanks for letting me vent.

That is so ridiculous, I am sorry you are having to even do this at all! I know we hate having to have our blog private but It is for safety reasons too! :( hope this goes well for you!

I don't know what's wrong with some people! Why in the heck do they feel the need to do stuff like this? It's sad that anyone should have to try to protect their kids photos so that they don't end up on some hate site.

On a side note your efforts will stop some people from taking your photos, but I tested and was able to save copies of your protected photos using at least two different methods. Unfortunately there isn't a way for us to protect them 100%, not even going private will make our blogs 100% secure. (Hacker are able to get into web sites that use much more complex security than what blogspot uses.) But then again, most people aren't skilled hackers and the people creating those hate sites probably don't have the skills to get around simple security, so efforts like what you have done to protect your photos will be effective in most cases. I just wanted to point out to everyone again that we need to remember anything we put on the internet is always at risk so we need to be sure not to post anything that could assist thieves with stealing our identities, figuring out our addresses, determining when we won't be home (so they can break in and rob us), etc.

I kind of understand why thieves would want to steal from us... But like I said, I can't see what these people creating hate sites have to gain by doing so. Does anyone know why they do it? (I haven't tried to find or look at any of their sites to see if they say why they do it or what their agenda is.)
